Further Away and worth the trip:
Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch
Leaves from Provincetown, so it's a long drive, but less ocean cruising time to get to Stellwagen Bank, where the the whales can be found. You can also spend some time in famous, eclectic, unique Provincetown. If you plan to eat there, we recommend the Lobster Pot. Check out Race Point and the Old Harbor Life Saving Station. It's a great way to spend a day before flying back home!
Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises
https://whales.net
A much shorter drive to the same great whales, but longer on the boat.
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
We recommend the WHOI tour (book in advance) and the Aquarium. The Landfall Restaurant is a great place for lunch or dinner! Take a pretty coastal drive to the Nobska Point Lighthouse.
Cape Cod National Seashore
The great Outer Beach described by Henry David Thoreau in the 1800s is home to beautiful views, naturescapes, lighthouses (take the tour to the top of the Highland Light), Marconi Wireless Station Site (the site of the first transatlantic wireless communication between the United States of America and Europe, on January 18, 1903), and so much more, including many fine hikes. If you plan to visit the National Seashore, be sure to stop by the Salt Pond Visitor Center, which is fascinating! www.nps.gov/caco/planyourvisit/visitorcenters.htm
Visit Downtown Chatham
Park your car and stroll through the quaint shops of Chatham Main Street. Grab an excellent lunch at the Impudent Oyster (a restaurant that is housed in a deconsecrated church), visit the Chatham Fish Pier in the early to mid afternoon when the fishing boats come in to unload and watch the seals gather for free meals, check out the Chatham Lighthouse and Coast Guard Station (famously depicted in the film "The Finest Hours"), and take a walk on the picturesque beach.
Visit Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard by ferry from Hyannis
Both charming Islands are easily accessible by fast or conventional ferries from the Ocean St docks or the South St docks in Hyannis Harbor. Either is a great day trip!
